What is the least my employer can pay me?

  • Your employer must pay you at least the minimum rate of wages notified by the Government s. 5.
  • Depending on your workplace, that is the Central Government or your State Government s. 2(d).
  • The rate depends on your skill level, on where you work, or on both s. 6(6).
  • No minimum rate can be below the floor wage set by the Central Government s. 9(2).

What the Labour Ministry says

  • “The concept of scheduled employment has been done away under the Code on Wages. The Code is now universally applicable to all employees, irrespective of their sector or category.” Q1, FAQs on the Code on Wages, 24 Dec 2025: official copy · our copy

This is the Ministry's explanation, not the law. Its FAQs and Handbook say the Codes prevail.
