Are wages and the minimum wage the same thing?

No. Wages are defined by what you are paid: basic pay, dearness allowance and any retaining allowance, with the 50% rule s. 2(y).
The minimum wage is the lowest rate the Government has notified, which your employer cannot pay below s. 5.
