For employers

Which workplaces need an Internal Committee?

  • Every employer of a workplace must set up the Committee by written order, at every office or unit s. 4(1).
  • It has a senior woman employee as Presiding Officer, at least two employee members, and a member from a women’s organisation or a person familiar with these issues s. 4(2).
  • At least half the members must be women s. 4(2).
  • Where there is no Internal Committee because there are fewer than ten workers, or where the complaint is against the employer, the district’s Local Committee takes it s. 6(1).

This comes from the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2013, not the Labour Codes. Rules made under it may add detail, and this library does not hold them.
