Does the law cover me if I am a temporary or part-time employee?

  • The Code on Wages covers any person employed on wages by an establishment to do skilled, semi-skilled, unskilled, manual, operational, supervisory, managerial, administrative, technical or clerical work. It does not leave out temporary or part-time staff s. 2(k).
  • An apprentice under the Apprentices Act is not an employee under this definition s. 2(k).
  • Minimum wages apply to every employee, whatever the job s. 5.
  • Other rights have their own limits. Annual leave, for example, is for workers who have worked enough days in the year OSH s. 32(1).

What the Labour Ministry says

  • “The concept of scheduled employment has been done away under the Code on Wages. The Code is now universally applicable to all employees, irrespective of their sector or category.” Q1, FAQs on the Code on Wages, 24 Dec 2025: official copy · our copy

This is the Ministry's explanation, not the law. Its FAQs and Handbook say the Codes prevail.
