How much sick leave or casual leave do I get?
- The Codes do not use the words sick leave. If you are insured under ESI, sickness benefit is paid on a medical certificate SS s. 32(1)(a).
- Under the model standing orders, you may be granted casual leave with wages of up to ten days in a calendar year order 12(1).
- Casual leave is not for more than three days at a time, except for sickness and unforeseen circumstances order 12(1), proviso.
The model standing orders are for industrial establishments with three hundred or more workers (IR Code s. 28(1)), and your employer's certified standing orders may differ. Elsewhere, check your appointment letter, and see what applies at a smaller workplace.
The citations are to the service sector's model. These points read the same for manufacturing (order 11) and mining (order 12).
