Artificial humidification: factories
- All the time
- Employer
What to do
Assess the risks where employees are exposed to extreme heat and high humidity that cannot be eliminated, and put the necessary controls in place rule 25(i); test and record the relative humidity, and regulate it if it is harmful, using water from a drinking-water source or purified water rule 25(vii).
Who it applies to
The employer of every factory in which the humidity of the air is artificially increased rule 25.
In the checklist: Artificial humidification.
When
All the time rule 25.
How
Provide a work-rest cycle, preferably in a shaded, air-conditioned or cooler resting space, where other ways of removing the risk are impracticable rule 25(iii).
Provide enough drinking water, with electrolytes where appropriate, at easily accessible places rule 25(iv).
Supervise exposed employees so they can be withdrawn if symptoms occur, and keep first-aid facilities and trained staff available rule 25(v).
Train exposed employees to recognise the symptoms of heat stress and what to do about them rule 25(vi).
Provide and maintain instruments to measure and record humidity and temperature at appropriate locations rule 25(viii).
