Registering employees for ESI

What to do
Register each new employee on the specified portal by entering their name, Aadhaar number and other details, unless they are already registered; an insurance number is allotted at once rule 18(1).
Who it applies to
Establishments covered by the ESI Chapter: every establishment in which ten or more persons are employed, other than a seasonal factory First Schedule.

When
Before or on the day the person is taken into employment rule 18(1).
How
Enter the updated particulars of the employee and family on the declaration form on the portal; the insurance number becomes invalid if this is not done within thirty days rule 18(2)–(3).
For a person already registered, add them on the portal with their insurance number and date of appointment rule 18(1).
Use the insurance number for filing contributions rule 18(5).
