What to do
Keep every location in the ship or dock where dock work is carried on clean and hygienic, keep access routes and working areas free of things people can trip or slip on, and arrange the daily collection, storage, disposal or treatment of waste under effective supervision rule 39.

When

How
Keep loose gear and tools safely, or remove them from working areas when not in use, and park plant and equipment in designated areas rule 39(iii), (vii).
Have trained personnel clean up spillages of oil or other hazardous materials as soon as possible rule 39(iv).
Provide safety and protective gear without expense to employees, and free anti-skid footwear where a floor can become wet rule 39(v)–(vi).
