What to do
Provide and maintain a canteen in or next to the establishment serving nutritious, wholesome and healthy food, with a dining hall, kitchen, store room, pantry and separate washing places rule 53 s. 24(1)(v).
Who it applies to
Where one hundred or more workers including contract labourers are ordinarily employed s. 24(1)(v), in every factory, mine, building or other construction work, industrial premise for manufacture of beedi and cigar, motor transport undertaking, dock work and plantation rule 53.

How
Sell food and drinks on a no profit no loss basis and display the charges in the canteen rule 53.
Constitute a Canteen Managing Committee with equal representatives of workers and employer, one-third of whom are rotated every two years, unless a co-operative society runs the canteen rule 53.
Reserve part of the dining hall and counter for women employees and employees with disabilities rule 53.
A common canteen next to the premises may be used rule 53.
