Does the law give me a right to work from home?
- There is no general right. Under the model standing orders for the service sector, your employer may allow it, subject to your conditions of appointment or an agreement order 9.
- After maternity leave, your employer may let you work from home if your work allows it and you both agree SS s. 60(5).
The model standing orders are for industrial establishments with three hundred or more workers (IR Code s. 28(1)), and your employer's certified standing orders may differ. Elsewhere, check your appointment letter, and see what applies at a smaller workplace.
