What are the rules on late attendance?

  • Under the model standing orders, a worker attending late is liable to deduction of wages as the Code on Wages provides order 10(1).
  • Attendance is kept by identity card, biometrics or another notified system order 10(4).
  • A deduction for absence cannot be a bigger share of your pay than the time you were absent CW s. 20(2).
  • Habitual late attendance is on the list of misconduct order 24(5)(d).

The model standing orders are for industrial establishments with three hundred or more workers (IR Code s. 28(1)), and your employer's certified standing orders may differ. Elsewhere, check your appointment letter, and see what applies at a smaller workplace.

The citations are to the service sector's model. These points read the same for manufacturing (order 9, order 23) and mining (order 9, order 24).
